The current state of knowledge is a moment in history, changing just as rapidly as the state of knowledge in the past has ever changed and, in many instances, more rapidly. Jean Piaget
Web technologies as a method of Cognitive development
Piaget believed that development of intelligence centered around authentic activity. When new experiences occur they are often not immediately solvable with current schema (assimilation), the active interaction with web technologies can serve as a conduit for self directed interactions with new information and experiences and these attempts to understand using web technologies can serve to alter the cognitive framework of the individual (accommodation).

Web technologies such at InstaGrok, a research tool that allows users to build a concept map to which they can pin notes, websites, videos, and facts, can provide an active, self directed, collaborative approach to new informational experiences. Topics can be explored with information that fits existing schema (assimilation); but active interaction with generated headings allows for an investigative approach to build new cognitive frameworks (accommodation).
Web technologies can serve to advance cognitive development through a discovery learning model, allowing for visual classification of information by grouping information together on the basis of common features.
